Clinical Counsellor

When we go through several trials, challenges, and situations in life, we need an outlet to express ourselves. In the moment of life’s difficulties, it becomes even more difficult to acknowledge our previous successes or embrace our inner strengths. For me, I have found that talking helps. It is a starting point to achieving inner healing and overall mental wellness.

My goal is to provide encouragement, support, and strength and help people in all walks of life struggling and in need of help. I am ready to meet you where you are with the hopes that together, we can get you to your goal through mutual respect and understanding.

I have come to learn and believe that humans can attain self-actualization when provided with the right support, tools, and skills. I align with CBT orientation as I believe having the proper mindset helps individuals morph into the best versions of themselves, thus achieving self-actualization. I also use Rogers’s person-centred approach in my work because the client is the expert of their own lived experiences.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University with a BA in Health Science major and Gerontology Minor and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. With over ten years of experience volunteering and working with children and families, I found myself with a strong passion for counselling.

It will be a huge privilege to work alongside you as we journey together to help you through life circumstances and find healing.

The following are areas I can support you with:

    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Family Dynamics
    • Parenting
    • Pregnancy, Prenatal, and Postpartum
    • Self Confidence and Self-Esteem
    • Racial Identity

Clinical Counsellor

My passion for counseling has been consistently stirred by my own life experiences and need for support during, what felt like, impossible obstacles. It was not that long ago that I was the person sitting across from a counselor, using up all the Kleenex, feeling rejected, hurt, angry and hopeless. My feelings of defeat in that counseling room were met every time with compassion, empathy, understanding and the belief that tomorrow always provides the opportunity to begin again. I gained tools and resources and faced tremendous growth and self-reflection. Right now, so many people are tired, worn out and struggling with the day to day, believing that they are stuck and very much alone. My hearts passion is to help you see, that tomorrow always provides a new opportunity.

I believe that every individual has the potential and the capacity to face hardship with strength and resiliency. My passion is to help clients navigate the ever-changing landscape of their lives to discover their own strengths in the face of adversity and to celebrate the best versions of themselves. Through the therapeutic relationship I desire to create a collaborative, safe, non-judgmental and vulnerable space where clients can come to be seen, heard and known.

Whether through unexpected or planned life transition, challenging circumstances or relationship, the daily battle with chronic illness and/or pain, or simply seeking to become the best version of themselves, my passion is to provide individuals with coping skills, management strategies and resources to gain self-confidence and motivation to move from where they are to where they want to be. I believe that our past influences our present but does not define our future.

I have completed both my Undergraduate degree in Psychology and hold my Graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Clinical Counsellor

I have a deep love for working with all populations, youth, couples, and elders. I am committed to providing excellent counselling services in a timely fashion, with the goal of serving your needs. My expertise is in working with children and youth with educational and relationship challenges.

I work most effectively with children and youth who struggle with relationship issues. Having had severe dyslexia at a young age, has given me a wealth of compassion for those who struggle in school or in life.

I have been working with young people for almost 30 years, as both a teacher and as a registered clinical counsellor.

Being from Newfoundland, I have a profound appreciation for community, learning, and laughter. Growing up on an island, one experiences a unique sense of community that translates into helping one another whenever needed.  My love of learning began from the time I learned to read and write, which was hampered by severe dyslexia, which took me a few years to catch up to my peers.  Because I believe that laughter is the language of the soul, I seek to delight in the person I am working with.  Counselling is a partnership that, at its most effective, is built upon integrity, commitment and an unconditional respect.

When not at my office, I love to spend time with family, reading, and playing tennis. I am insatiably fascinated by peoples’ choices and motivations. I am deeply grateful to participate in this work.

The following list below are my areas of specialization:

  • School Issues
  • Coping Skills
  • Teen Violence
  • Peer Relationships
  • Stress
  • Relationship Issues
  • Family Conflict
  • Trauma
  • Self Esteem
  • Spirituality

Clinical Counsellor

We are all human beings, and we all have strengths and weaknesses. There are times in life when each one of us will encounter challenges or difficult situations. In those times, it takes courage to reach out and ask for help, but we are all in this together, and there is help here at Crossroads.

I am a passionate professional who continues to strive to improve my skillset while bringing passion to working with both youth and adults in hopes of providing them further opportunities to thrive and grow as they overcome the challenges of life.  My culturally informed style of counselling is a blend of humanistic and client-centered theoretical approaches in which I apply a variety of different techniques based on the needs of each individual client. Being of service to another human being and finding a way to help is a privilege I am grateful for whenever it is presented to me. My goal is to do just that, to help my clients find a way to work through the challenges of life in a way that best suits who they are in a safe, non-judgmental and collaborative approach. You already have everything you need to be happy and overcome the obstacles life has put in your way. My job is to help you discover and develop those strengths.

I have been blessed with a vast range of experiences in my professional career as a teacher, program director, athlete, coach, father of 3 adult children, and a small business owner. As a result of these opportunities and experiences, I feel I have a balanced perspective and a wide range of skills, interests, and abilities that make me very adaptable to any new challenge set before me. I also feel that this well-rounded skill set, coupled with having overcome challenges in my own life, will serve me well as I continue to seek new opportunities to connect with and help people as a counsellor.

Clinical Counsellor

Clinical Counsellor, Play Therapist

For us to heal from the experiences and struggles we face, we must allow ourselves to process our thoughts and emotions. I work with clients in a gentle and non-judgemental manner. I offer short term and long term goals focused on counselling for children, youth and adults.

I support children, youth and adults who feel stuck, anxious, and unable to enjoy their present lives. Our past struggles and experiences can sometimes leave a negative residue on us and prevent us from living freely. For us to heal from the experiences and struggles we face we must allow ourselves to process our thoughts and emotions so we can truly move past them.

I work with clients in a gentle and non judgmental manner to support you in navigating through your struggles and help you cope effectively. I offer short term and long-term goal focused counselling for children, youth, and adults. I have experience helping clients to cope with depression and anxiety, build self-esteem and self-acceptance.

I have spent many years as a behavioral therapist working with children and youth on the autism spectrum. I offer counselling for children with autism as well as support for parents. No matter what your struggle or difficulty is, I will work with you to support you in learning and developing the skills you need to help cope with the challenges you face.

Clinical Counsellor

This is your journey. Only you have lived your life and become the person you are today. You know what you need, or maybe you just know you want something different, and I’m here to walk that path with you.

I offer non-judgmental, collaborative, client-centered, strengths-based support to help you process whatever it is you are working through. One of the things I enjoy most about this work is being able to help adults and youth become empowered again– remind them that they are stronger than they think, that many of the resources or answers are already there, waiting to be uncovered.

Some of the hardships I have assisted people with are:

    • Past traumas that they feel “stuck” with.
    • Recent traumas and feeling overwhelmed.
    • Working through panic attacks and other anxiety disorders
    • Improving communication in relationships
    • Working out boundaries and creating plans for difficult conversations

I have had the good fortune to be supporting people since 2007, when I began working in Mental Health and Addictions. I always knew that I wanted to be a trauma counsellor (growing up with a first responder for a father was bound to do that to one of us 4 kids), so I knew I needed to continue with my education and experience. In 2010 I obtained my Bachelor of Social Work degree and began working as a Probation Officer. While I enjoyed working with people and facilitating groups, probation was not where I ultimately wanted to be so I pursued my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University. After completing that practicum in 2013 and facilitating trauma groups, I began work as a trauma counsellor in a local non-profit, assisting women who had experienced childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and/or domestic violence. More recently I have been working as a generalist counsellor, supporting people with a wide variety of issues/concerns.

My areas of specialization are:

    • Addictions
    • Anger Management
    • Anxiety
    • Communication/Boundaries
    • Critical Incident Stress
    • Depression
    • Domestic Violence
    • Self-Esteem
    • Stress Management
    • Trauma

I use the following modalities when working with clients:

    • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
    • Dialectic Behavioural Therapy
    • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
    • Mindfulness
    • Motivational Interviewing
    • Narrative Therapy
    • Psychoeducation

Clinical Counsellor, Play Therapist

My passion and primary focus lie in the realm of trauma. I believe that every individual is unique, and one approach cannot be ideal. I encourage my clients to consider a curious perspective towards their thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and memories. I also incorporate tools to help my clients loosen the grip of unhelpful narratives, thought patterns and self-beliefs.

I am a Registered Clinical Counselor with BCACC. I did my master’s in counseling psychology in school and youth concentration from Adler University, Vancouver.

Mental health issues, especially traumatic experiences and major life stressors can significantly impact our daily lives, and make us feel disconnected from ourselves, our loved ones, and other important aspects of our lives. I believe that building such connections is the key to healing. Hence, my work focuses on helping my clients build healthier perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships.

With this, I attempt to use a holistic approach in counseling, bringing together emotion, thoughts, and the body. I use different modalities with my clients like CBT-Trauma Informed lens, DBT, Emotional Freedom tapping techniques, Brain Spotting, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, and ACT.

I am experienced in working with clients dealing with :

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • ADHD
  • OCD
  • Anger Management
  • LGBTQ
  • Parenting
  • Parent-child relationship
  • Grief and loss

I hope to provide you with a safe place to reflect and articulate your feelings and thoughts. When you can name your struggles, you can begin tackling your problems. I hope to guide and support you in your journey to rediscovering yourself, your voice, and renewed hopes for your future. Nothing is more meaningful and rewarding than celebrating with people who overcome their life struggles and come out empowered with hope.

I completed a Masters degree in Mental Health and Marriage & Family Counselling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, from the United States. I have worked with college students and people of various ages in an outpatient unit at a hospital. My treatment and therapy methodology approach consists of an integrative approach that comprises multiple techniques, such as CBT, Strength-Based, Solution-focused brief therapy, and Existentialism.

Prior to pursuing my Masters degree in Counselling, I completed a Masters in Divinity and have worked for more than ten years in a faith community. I welcome clients wanting to integrate faith into their counselling sessions. I am also fluent in Korean and familiar with Korean culture for clients who feel more comfortable expressing themselves in Korean.

Clinical Counsellor, Play Therapist

It isn’t easy to seek support, but here you are. You’ve already jumped over a very tough hurdle! I bring warmth and compassion to each interaction and believe in the innate ability we all have to heal and grow. It’s my goal to help you find a deeper appreciation and understanding of self and to expand your capacity for lifelong resiliency in a space where you feel seen and heard.

Life is tough sometimes. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unable to cope, I can help you. I am passionate about helping children and youth become empowered and in charge of their thoughts. If your child is having a hard time with thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, I am here to support as well. You are not alone.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) through BCACC. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters of Counselling from City University and currently, I am working towards becoming a Certified Play Therapist. Prior to counselling, I worked as a Kindergarten Teacher for nearly 10 years. It was this role as an early childhood educator that ignited my desire to help children through the challenges of life with more depth and meaning. It fuelled my curiosity around attachment theory and how adverse childhood experiences affect the developing brain, impacting children’s emotional and developmental trajectory. Which ultimately filters into our lives as adults.

I am passionate about helping young children, youth, and adults process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that grants them the awareness that they are truly capable and worthy. Through a person-centered, holistic and collaborative approach, my practice aims to help shift unhelpful thinking and exercise healthy coping. I’ll help you identify the physiological responses, process the root cause and learn effective self-regulation to make daily life feel lighter and more enjoyable.  I am equally as enthusiastic to work with caregivers and families to support in better understanding the why behind behaviours, strategies for dealing with diverse needs, and personal struggles.

My approach is integrative and based on your unique needs; I may utilize CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Somatic Practices, Play Therapy and Psychoeducation. I work within a range of areas such as:

Working with my clients has granted me the opportunity to build positive connections using a strength-based approach and mindful strategies to help them regulate their emotions, problem-solve, and increase self-confidence and self-esteem.

Over the past 20 years, I have supported students in the school system in my current and past careers from elementary to high school. Clinical Counsellor

Mental health is a critical element of a fulfilling life. Yet, for some, it is just a mirage. As we transition through life, we experience unhappiness, anxiousness, depression, grief, and loss, which can have negative effects on our mind, body and soul and even negatively impact those around us. Although reaching out to a counsellor can make a person feel vulnerable it is through that vulnerability that assists us in building self-esteem, confidence and resilience to move forward in our lives. In my practice, I emphasize creating a trusting professional relationship using compassion, empathy and understanding your circumstance more clearly. With added support and education, we can alleviate the current intensity of the struggle or difficult situation. I am a Registered Clinical counsellor,  Registered Social Worker and a Certified Clinical Supervisor assisting other clinicians in their practice. I have been in private practice for over 25 years. I have worked in the health field as counsellor, advocate, coach, and group facilitator assisting people in the areas of:
    • Child Development and Parenting Struggles
    • Suicide Ideation and mental health in Children and Adults
    • Separation and Divorce
    • Depression and Anxiety / Mood Disorders
    • Grief and Loss counselling
    • Past or Recent Trauma

I practice and value the client-centered model knowing that you have your own answers. At this time in your personal or professional struggle, you may simply require different and unique questioning to come to a clearer understanding of your current situation. The single most important first step is to align with someone you will quickly know, like, and trust so that you can be as open and honest as your forge a new path for yourself.  I am intuitive, insightful, astute, and personable. I would be honored to join you on your journey to a deeper understanding of your resilience and personal development.

Intern Counsellor, Play Therapist

The path to healing looks different for everyone. By trying counseling, you are taking an effective step to better understanding yourself and your options when it comes to improving your life path.

If you are looking for a space to feel genuinely understood, to safely express all of your feelings (even the really scary ones), to vent and hash out difficult experiences or thoughts without judgment, and maybe even to create an action plan for change; I can help.

I serve all communities, including:

  •  Couples and families
  •  Poly-various relations
  •  LGBTQ2+ peoples
  •  Peoples legally required to participate in therapy
  •  Peoples experiencing various addictions
  •  Peoples experiencing concurrent (at the same time) mental health and substance use concerns
  • Anyone with race and/or religious and/or ability based concerns that impact their mental wellness
  • Sex workers or anyone with previous sex work experience

We will work together as a team on the journey to improve your well-being.

I am currently in the practicum portion of my Master’s Degree in Counseling, which means you will get the benefit of receiving therapy for a reduced cost, and the additional benefits of heightened therapist accountability, and professional guidance from some of the most experienced counselors at our clinic.

I hold an undergraduate Degree in Psychology, as well as a certification from CAMH for Treatment of Concurrent Disorders. I have been trained by CrossRoads Collective in their newly developed Play Therapy Program, I am Suicide Safe Talk certified, and have multiple years of experience working in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. I believe deeply in the usefulness of harm reduction in all spaces, the legitimacy of everyone’s unique life experiences, and everyone’s capacity for change, whatever that may look or feel like for each individual or family unit.

I personally believe in a holistic approach to wellness, and subscribe to the understanding that the mind and the soul are not separate from the body. Choosing me to be a part of your therapeutic team means we will assess and address areas of your physical and spiritual wellness that also impact your mental wellness, like sleep, diet, ritual, movement, acts of self love, social relations, and so forth.

It is crucially important for therapeutic success that you find a therapist that you connect with and feel confident in. Knowing the therapist’s strengths and interests beforehand can be helpful in determining who is a good match for you. The strengths and interests I possess, and am constantly developing are:

  • Child Play Therapy
  • Narrative writing for traumatic experiences or childhood traumas
  • Understanding and treatment of depression
  • Safety planning for those with thoughts of suicide and/or self harm
  • Treatment at any stage of the addiction experience
  • Practicing effective conflict response
  • Working through unresolved/unresolvable experiences or relationships
  • Working through divorce (for youth and adults)
  • Difficult somatic (body) experiences
  • Understanding and treatment of anxiety
  • Understanding and living with personality disorders (for the person experiencing and their loved ones)
  • Therapy during transition at any stage
  • Mind, Body, Soul connection
  • Life Direction work and planning
  • Improving communication
  • Improving boundary setting and execution
  • Grief and loss/Death related therapy
