Intern Counsellor, Play Therapist

About Anoop

Beginning counselling can feel like a vulnerable step, and if you are here, I want to honour the courage it took to arrive. My hope is that when you read this, you feel a sense of warmth, safety, and ease, like you might be sitting down with someone who truly wants to understand you. You do not need to have everything figured out to begin. You are welcome exactly as you are.

My approach to counselling is relational, multidimensional, and deeply personalized. I draw from evidence-based practices including attachment-informed, psychodynamic, somatic, mindfulness-based, and strengths-focused approaches. Together, we explore how your past experiences, relationships, and environments have shaped the ways you think, feel, and respond today. While we cannot always control what activates us, we can gently learn how to listen to our bodies, understand our patterns, and develop new ways of responding that feel more supportive and aligned. This work often includes reflecting on early attachment experiences, meaningful relationships, emotional patterns, and the ways culture, identity, and life transitions influence your inner world.

I strive to create a space where you feel safe, unjudged, and deeply respected. From a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens, I do not view you as broken or in need of fixing. Rather, I see you as someone who has adapted in ways that once helped you survive and cope. With compassion, curiosity, and warmth, we can explore what no longer serves you and begin to nurture healthier, more empowering ways of being. Therapy does not have to feel rigid or intimidating. It can also include gentleness, reflection, and moments of lightness and humour along the way.

I bring extensive experience working with youth and adults across a variety of settings, supporting emotional regulation, mental health, identity development, and life transitions. I am deeply honoured to walk alongside individuals as they explore their stories, strengthen their sense of self, and move toward meaningful change. As a South Asian woman, I hold a deep appreciation for the ways culture, family dynamics, and intergenerational experiences shape our lives, and I welcome conversations that honour your unique background and lived experience.

At my core, I am simply a human navigating life alongside you. I am a daughter, friend, partner, nature-lover, reflective soul, and someone who values growth, authenticity, and connection. It would be a privilege to support you on your journey, and I would be honoured to walk with you as you move toward greater clarity, healing, and self-understanding.

I have completed my Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology at UBC and am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. As an intern counsellor, I receive ongoing clinical supervision to support thoughtful, ethical, and high standard care.
