Why Hire A Counselling Intern in Kelowna?

There are a lot of reasons why people choose to work with our counselling interns in Kelowna. After talking with some of our esteemed clientele, we have boiled it down to 6 main reasons why you should consider Crossroad Counselling for this amazing service:

Affordable

As mentioned earlier, the rates for counselling interns are lower than if you decided to
work with a licensed professional. It allows people with a lower income to have access to
the services that they need today.

Flexible

Licensed professionals will work mostly during office hours. Interns will often be available during the evening and after working hours. It might be more convenient for you to meet after working hours and not have to worry about taking time off.

New Perspective

Our counselling interns in Langley and Kelowna are learning and up to date on the latest treatments and interventions. They bring a fresh look and perspective to ailments and issues that can be afflicting you.

Quality

One of the biggest misconceptions about counselling interns is that they do not
offer quality services. Not only are they qualified, they also benefit from supervision from our seasoned practitioners.

Dedicated

Our interns are excited to work with you. They want to prove themselves & continue learning every single day. They are committed to the process and eager to help you.

Professional

Crossroad Counselling hires only interns that can provide professional services. During the interview process, they need to show that they have integrity and that they are committed to go above and beyond.

I am a Master of Art Counselling Psychology Student with Yorkville University. Once I complete my degree, I intend to become registered as a clinical counsellor (RCC) through BCACC. I completed my Bachlor of Art with a major in Psychology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus in 2019. I have worked in mental health for over 7 years. I have cared for elders with mental illness, worked in a stabilization unit, and as a member of the Vernon Mental Health and Substance Use team.

Through my own struggles with anxiety, I have gained an appreciation and understanding of the uncertainty my clients face when seeking help. I understand on a personal level how they can be impacted by a diagnosis. As a parent to children with mental health struggles, I have unconditional compassion for others and understand the effect it can have on a family. I also have experienced how invaluable it can be to connect with a professional to feel heard, supported and to gain new perspective.

I value a person-centered, individual approach for each client that sees me. I want to help walk with you on your journey in a way that feels right to you without judgment. I bring an open, safe, and respectful environment to all people no matter the struggles they are facing. It’s my honour to counsel you during your challenges and help you heal from any of these experiences.

I have experience working with individuals in a supportive role through my many years of mental health work, including those suffering from:

  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Transgender youth
  • Schizophrenia
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Parenting
  • Divorce
  • Grief

Sometimes life feels heavy, and you may find yourself stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next. Having the right support can make all the difference. I will work alongside you to create a safe and compassionate space where you can slow down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing.

I work with individuals, couples, families, children, and youth, supporting people through life’s obstacles. This could mean helping a child find healthy ways to express and manage overwhelming emotions, guiding a family to rebuild trust and improve their communication, or walking alongside an adult as they navigate anxiety, manage stress, or develop emotional balance.

With a background in child and youth care, my approach is compassionate, down-to-earth, and centred on what matters most to you. My goal is to meet you where you are and support you in moving forward with greater clarity, resilience, and connection.

I am currently a student intern counsellor at Crossroads Collective in Kelowna, BC, while pursuing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. With an educational background in Child and Youth Care and ongoing practical experience through my practicums and current work in the field, I have developed a strong foundation for supporting children, youth, and families. As an intern, I receive experienced clinical supervision that guides my work, allowing me to provide compassionate, client-centred support focused on helping individuals build resilience and develop healthy coping skills.

Outside of work, I’m an outdoors enthusiast who loves hiking and travelling to new places. I was also a competitive dancer and deeply value movement as a powerful form of self-expression. I bring this sense of creativity and openness into my counselling practice, creating a space where you can feel safe to explore your own journey toward growth and healing.

My Approach to Counselling

I offer an integrative, client-centred and trauma-informed approach to therapy, with a deep respect for each person’s unique story and strengths. My work is grounded in Adlerian principles, emphasizing encouragement, belonging, and purposeful living while exploring family dynamics to understand patterns and foster social connectedness. I prioritize enhancing clients’ emotional awareness and facilitating deeper connections with themselves and others in the present moment. By guiding clients to reframe and reconstruct their personal narratives, I support healing, empowerment, and resilience.

With children and youth, I incorporate play therapy and expressive arts to promote emotional regulation, communication, and self-expression in ways that are developmentally appropriate and engaging. My background in creative movement and dance enriches this work, especially for clients who benefit from somatic and non-verbal expression.

I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families to address a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and emotional regulation. Through a compassionate and strength-based lens, I strive to create a safe and inclusive space where healing and growth can unfold.

Areas of Focus

I work with children, youth, adults, couples, and families in areas such as:

  • Emotional Regulation & Stress Management
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Family Dynamics & Parenting Support
  • Self-Esteem, Building Resilience and Coping Strategies
  • Trauma & Grief
  •  Supporting Neurodiverse Individuals
  • Life Transitions & Personal Growth
