Clinical Counsellor, Play Therapist

It isn’t easy to seek support, but here you are. You’ve already jumped over a very tough hurdle! I bring warmth and compassion to each interaction and believe in the innate ability we all have to heal and grow. It’s my goal to help you find a deeper appreciation and understanding of self and to expand your capacity for lifelong resiliency in a space where you feel seen and heard.

Life is tough sometimes. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck or unable to cope, I can help you. I am passionate about helping children and youth become empowered and in charge of their thoughts. If your child is having a hard time with thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, I am here to support as well. You are not alone.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) through BCACC. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters of Counselling from City University and currently, I am working towards becoming a Certified Play Therapist. Prior to counselling, I worked as a Kindergarten Teacher for nearly 10 years. It was this role as an early childhood educator that ignited my desire to help children through the challenges of life with more depth and meaning. It fuelled my curiosity around attachment theory and how adverse childhood experiences affect the developing brain, impacting children’s emotional and developmental trajectory. Which ultimately filters into our lives as adults.

I am passionate about helping young children, youth, and adults process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that grants them the awareness that they are truly capable and worthy. Through a person-centered, holistic and collaborative approach, my practice aims to help shift unhelpful thinking and exercise healthy coping. I’ll help you identify the physiological responses, process the root cause and learn effective self-regulation to make daily life feel lighter and more enjoyable.  I am equally as enthusiastic to work with caregivers and families to support in better understanding the why behind behaviours, strategies for dealing with diverse needs, and personal struggles.

My approach is integrative and based on your unique needs; I may utilize CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Somatic Practices, Play Therapy and Psychoeducation. I work within a range of areas such as:

  • Emotional Regulation
  • Coping Skills
  • Boundaries
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Early childhood development
  • Parenting
  • Pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum

Clinical Counsellor, Play Therapist

I believe that each person already has the inner resources to grow and make positive changes. However, sometimes, we need some extra support accessing those resources. As a counsellor, I aim to foster a supportive, healing environment to help you connect with yourself, get in touch with your inner wisdom, and create meaningful changes in your life.

In our work together, we will identify and transform the patterns you developed to survive, but are no longer serving you. This will look like exploring your behaviours, emotions, thoughts, expectations, and the meaning you make of your concerns. We will also explore the impact of the systems in which you exist, such as your family and cultural contexts.

By looking at each layer of your experience, we can identify your stuck points and help you feel empowered to make choices in alignment with who you are. I take a collaborative and anti-oppressive approach to therapy, so throughout the process, I will always emphasize choice and safety.

Intern Counsellor, Play Therapist

I am here to walk alongside you on the path you are currently navigating. Life presents us with unique challenges and hardships, and seeking help can help us attain a clearer path. Acknowledging the need for assistance is not a sign of weakness but rather a testament to your strength and courage. I am deeply committed to supporting you as we explore different avenues for change. My role is to provide a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental space to facilitate your journey toward personal growth.

I am currently a Master of Counselling Psychology student at Yorkville University. Prior to starting the master’s program, I completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of the Fraser Valley with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology. The knowledge I gained throughout my undergrad allows me to better understand how our minds impact us in how we think and feel, as well as how we are impacted by our environment and society.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for a non-profit at an emergency shelter where I worked closely with individuals struggling with active addiction, diverse mental health issues, women and men fleeing domestic violence situations and a general population of people who are struggling to keep up with the fast pace of life.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that you already possess the necessary resources within you to foster meaningful change. My role is to guide you in nurturing these existing skills and developing new tools to achieve your goals. I am here to support you, creating a safe space where you can freely express deep thoughts and emotions, even those that may be difficult or uncomfortable to articulate.

Areas I am able to support you include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • LGBTQ2+
  • Depression

  • Stress Management
  • Communication building

Intern Counsellor

I have learned over a number of careers that one of my true joys is supporting people to accomplish their goals. I bring considerable life experience, empathy, and understanding to my practice allowing me to provide a safe, non-threatening, and non-judgmental environment.

I believe in working with you to achieve your goals.

I have had a number of careers in my life: selling automotive, agricultural, and truck parts, as a counselor with John Howard Society, and many years working at universities in Canada, Qatar, and UAE. My family and I spent nearly 8 years overseas returning to Canada in 2017, with a ton of experience and a lot of reverse culture shock. Throughout these careers I have developed and nurtured a strong sense of service, bringing me to my third and current career as a clinical counsellor (intern), returning to a path I began many years ago.

My approach to counselling is person-centered (client-centered) and contextual. I believe in an integrative therapeutic model that includes:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy
  • Gottman Method
  • Integrative Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Solution-Focused Therapy

I serve a number of areas of concern including, but not limited to,

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Life Transitions (including retirement)
  • Men’s Issues
  • Relationship Counselling
  • Interpersonal Conflict
  • Burnout

Intern Counsellor, Play Therapist

It is my desire to support individuals of all identities to heal and grow through challenging transitional periods in their lives in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Driven by a deep understanding of human emotions and a desire to make a positive impact, I approach each session with compassion and an open mind.

There are many times throughout our lives where we all need a bit of extra support. It would be my honour to work alongside you as part of your support system to help you overcome life’s challenges during these times. With a natural empathetic spirit, I offer a safe environment for you to be yourself and create meaningful changes within your life while exploring the most vulnerable parts of yourself.

I am a Master of Counselling Psychology student at Yorkville University. Prior to pursuing my master’s degree, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology at Simon Fraser University. My passion and desire to help others within the mental health field stemmed not only from my educational journey but also from personal experiences as well. I myself have struggled with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders thus further demonstrating my ability to collaborate with you on a personal level through similar challenges. My current work as a youth support worker supporting diverse populations in a safe environment while getting to know them on a personal level has only further affirmed my desire to work in this field. I believe that my unique experiences and education attest to my credibility in working in this field and supporting the growth of my clients by helping them improve their quality of life and achieve inner peace and joy.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, attending the gym, and also engaging in other hobbies such as reading and various forms of art including painting and gardening. This creativity also transfers into my practice allowing me to think outside the box and tailor my approach to meet the needs of each unique client by collaboratively developing techniques that work for you. I offer an integrative approach to counselling that combines holistic, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches. In addition to my empathetic nature and creative mindset, I am committed to providing a safe and supportive space for you to explore your innermost thoughts and feelings in a vulnerable manner, fostering empowerment, self-discovery, and a change in perspective.
