Clinical Counsellor

My passion for counseling has been consistently stirred by my own life experiences and need for support during, what felt like, impossible obstacles. It was not that long ago that I was the person sitting across from a counselor, using up all the Kleenex, feeling rejected, hurt, angry and hopeless. My feelings of defeat in that counseling room were met every time with compassion, empathy, understanding and the belief that tomorrow always provides the opportunity to begin again. I gained tools and resources and faced tremendous growth and self-reflection. Right now, so many people are tired, worn out and struggling with the day to day, believing that they are stuck and very much alone. My hearts passion is to help you see, that tomorrow always provides a new opportunity.

I believe that every individual has the potential and the capacity to face hardship with strength and resiliency. My passion is to help clients navigate the ever-changing landscape of their lives to discover their own strengths in the face of adversity and to celebrate the best versions of themselves. Through the therapeutic relationship I desire to create a collaborative, safe, non-judgmental and vulnerable space where clients can come to be seen, heard and known.

Whether through unexpected or planned life transition, challenging circumstances or relationship, the daily battle with chronic illness and/or pain, or simply seeking to become the best version of themselves, my passion is to provide individuals with coping skills, management strategies and resources to gain self-confidence and motivation to move from where they are to where they want to be. I believe that our past influences our present but does not define our future.

I have completed both my Undergraduate degree in Psychology and hold my Graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

When we go through several trials, challenges, and situations in life, we need an outlet to express ourselves. In the moment of life’s difficulties, it becomes even more difficult to acknowledge our previous successes or embrace our inner strengths. For me, I have found that talking helps. It is a starting point to achieving inner healing and overall mental wellness.

My goal is to provide encouragement, support, and strength and help people in all walks of life struggling and in need of help. I am ready to meet you where you are with the hopes that together, we can get you to your goal through mutual respect and understanding.

I have come to learn and believe that humans can attain self-actualization when provided with the right support, tools, and skills. I align with CBT orientation as I believe having the proper mindset helps individuals morph into the best versions of themselves, thus achieving self-actualization. I also use Rogers’s person-centred approach in my work because the client is the expert of their own lived experiences.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University with a BA in Health Science major and Gerontology Minor and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. With over ten years of experience volunteering and working with children and families, I found myself with a strong passion for counselling.

I will help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and self-acceptance.

I am a Registered Clinical Counselor (RCC) with the BC Clinical Counselor Association (BCACC). I have a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Sometimes in the solitude of our minds, challenges become so big that we don’t know where to start. Thoughts and feelings come in waves, and it quickly becomes difficult to make sense of things. I believe we can collaborate and develop strategies that address the underlying cause of those difficulties. Together we will co-create a space to examine thoughts and feelings from different perspectives and start the healing process. Life is full of challenges, and you don’t have to take this all on your own. Let’s work together to identify and build on your strengths so that you can feel more prepared to face the next storm.

Our work together can look many ways, as my goal is to tailor my approaches to your needs. There are a variety of lenses that will inform our work together. I believe that you have strengths and resources that can be supported and expanded, and we can look.

I also take the perspective of seeing the person in their environment. This means that I see the challenges that a person faces influenced by many different factors both in and around them, and we can explore different ways of thinking about and acting.

My practice lens is informed by seeing the person in their environment. This means that I believe that your experience is influenced by the communities and environments you interact with. Together we might explore ways to modify your surroundings and strive to find a better fit. I aim to support individuals holistically, recognizing the importance of and integrating a person’s social, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.

I come to you with a strengths-based and person-centered perspective; that is, I believe you have an abundance of strengths and resources to draw from. Together we can refine these strengths so you can take on new challenges.

I am completing my Master of Social Work Degree at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, and I plan to register as a clinical counsellor with the BCACC and as a social worker with the BCCSW. I have been living here in Kelowna for 7 years and take pride in helping build a resilient community. Over the past 5 years, I have worked with youth in our community delivering nature-based psychoeducation and recreation programs. I also spent time working in a restorative justice program, supporting youth, parents and families in promoting healing where interpersonal conflict and harm were experienced. I was a volunteer for a national crisis and suicide intervention line and had the honour of speaking with many individuals at very vulnerable times of their lives. I got to witness the strength and resilience people have when given the opportunity to be heard. From these experiences, I have a better understanding of the importance of unconditional positive regard, non-judgement, empathy, and genuine relationship. These are building blocks that we can use to co-create a therapeutic alliance. Lastly, I want to recognize the courage and self-awareness it takes to reach out for help.

I believe we all go through struggles and experiences in life where we may need extra support to rise above. If you feel overwhelmed, perhaps I could be of help or a resource for you to find the steps, opportunities or solutions to overcome the obstacles you face.

I would be deeply honoured to work alongside you to help you find your road to healing and recovery. I provide an empathetic and holistic approach to building trust and open communication within our counselling relationship.

My purpose in life has always been to help others. As I pursue my career as a therapist I am currently working as an associate counsellor and have nearly completed my MED in Counselling to become a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) through BCACC.

In addition, I have completed my Bachelor of Education and Post Graduate Certificate in Special Education. My other credentials include my BA in Child and Youth Care.

Working with children, youth and families have granted me the opportunity to build positive connections using a strength-based approach and mindful thinking to help individuals regulate their emotions, problem-solve, and increase self-confidence and self-esteem.

I have supported students in the school system in my current and past career from elementary to high school. As an Integration Support Teacher, my current role allows me to support neurodiverse individuals to ensure they have a valuable, inclusive, educational experience.

Some tasks include preparing and writing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), helping students transition to kindergarten and high school, and supporting students in their academic or life skills. I also work closely and collaboratively with the family, the school staff, and community partners like OT/PT/ SLP specialists to help with any physical, personal, or communication needs. In my previous career as a Child and Youth Care Worker I worked in the school system and community to help students regarding their social-emotional, or behavioural needs in a supportive approach including one-to-one or small group sessions. I continue developing my skills and therapeutic approach using sand tray therapy, solution-focused therapy, strength-based and person-centred methods, and Mindfulness.

Our life’s journey is comparable to the thrill of a mystical, magical rollercoaster ride. It has elements of both, surprise, and wonder. The highs, lows, twists, and turns encapsulate and capture our entire human existence in the vessels of our souls.

The amalgamation of these human experiences and emotions are as unique and intricate as our personal thumbprints. It is only natural to feel puzzled by our complexity, distinct patterning, and hidden psyche.

I strongly believe that storytelling is a potent tool to dive into our deepest, most eclipsed side of ourselves and discover the answers we otherwise seek on the surface of our day-to-day lives. I welcome you to my sessions, where we honour your stories and your truth. This therapeutic exchange is an opportunity for us to find a peaceful moment to pause, reflect, accept personal narratives. Let’s (re)create new stories where we celebrate your remarkable identity and meaningful journey. Life is dichotomous in nature, showering equal parts beauty and suffering upon all its mortals. Let’s find the resilience to grow regardless, with your infinite inner strength and my support, together.

I operate from strong personal intuition, empathy, friendship, and a sincere place in my heart. I use holistic lens and rely heavily on Rogerian Person-Centered philosophy and Solution Focused Therapy to establish good communication and working relationship with my clients. It would be a pleasure to serve my innate qualities to bring out a happier, healthier and the most confident human in you.

I am currently undergoing training for Gottman’s Method Couples Therapy Level 1 and 2 certification and cater to a variety of clients including children, youth, adults, and couples.

I am a Learner Support Team Teacher from past 6 years and completing my M.Ed in Counselling in March 2023. I have a B.A in Psychology and B.Ed with a minor in Human Development and Counselling. My role as a LST Teacher allows me to work specifically with students who have exceptionalities and vulnerabilities. I am both, experienced and trained, to support neurotypical, neurodiverse children (and their families) who may have behavior or academic challenges. I strongly believe the core to all mending starts at the heart center, with kindness and relationship building.

    • Personal Development
    • Life Transitions
    • Self-Esteem and Confidence Coaching
